Drinking ACV with the mother has been a popular and trendy focus of wellness because it’s abundant and cheap. Raw (cider) vinegar holds a plethora of nutrition because it contains the vinegar mother (probiotics), along with organic acids full of antioxidants, enzymes, vitamins, and minerals from the fruit used to make it.

While more expensive than pasteurized vinegar, raw vinegar can really make your body a powerhouse against infection because the probiotics in the mother carry organic anti-microbial protection. This strengthens the immune system, digestive tract, organs, and much more. Specifically, healthy bacterium can help your body fight off bacteria, fungi, parasites, viruses, and other harmful pathogens.

Think of mother ACV as the most delicious, natural medicine you’ll ever drink. In fact, you’ll look forward to drinking it every day. After years of getting colds way too frequently, sinus problems, and bronchitis one winter, finally, I searched for natural cold remedies.

Read my success story about drinking raw ACV water (a.k.a Dirty Water) daily for powerful immunity.

“I can’t afford organic. Can’t I just buy pasteurized ACV?”

Of course, you can drink the cheapest ACV. Acetic acid is still the main component; it holds a surplus of health benefits because of its antimicrobial properties. However, one study proves organic vinegar is best. Organic ACV was found to have 92 healthy bacteria strains, compared to 72 strains in non-organic ACV. This data proves the strength and quality of nutrients is higher in organic ACV.

If you’re going to take something for wellness, do it right. Don’t cut corners when it comes to your health. Drink a mother beverage to really take care of your insides.

Apple Cider Vinegar Nutrition Facts

The only complete nutrition label available is for pasteurized ACV. Zero calories, carbs, cholesterol, fiber, sodium, and sugar. If a raw ACV nutrition label has calories, carbohydrates, sugar, it is not pure ACV.

There is a long list of incomplete nutrition labels for raw ACV of many well-known brands. This highlights the incomplete research of ACV. While ACV contains many minerals including calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium, they are miniscule amounts. ACV is not a mineral or vitamin supplement.

Instead, drink raw vinegar daily as a great source of good bacteria (probiotics). Vinegar is packed with anti-microbial properties, which can help your body fight off infections such as bacterial, fungal, parasitic, and viral.

Below are four different brands of raw ACV. Note the brand on the top left has a higher potassium content than the rest. This brand is from a small organic chain and the most expensive one. To contrast, the brand on the top right is an organic brand for a very large grocery chain, and the one I usually buy. The bottom left, is Bragg, surely, the most well-known brand of ACV.

Best Brand of Apple Cider Vinegar

Any brand of ACV is great, but it needs to have the mother because of the high amount of nutrients. Any brand of ACV is great, but it needs to have the mother because of the high amount of probiotic nutrients. Particularly, do not be alarmed if raw ACV, even by the same brand are slightly different hues. Color will vary by brand or season as no bunch of apples are exactly the same.

Always buy raw vinegar in glass bottles and store it away from direct sunlight (natural light).

Simply buy the cheapest organic brand available if you are on a budget. If you are not on a budget, any brand is great, as long as you buy raw ACV (with the mother). Potassium amounts vary from brand to brand, although the difference is miniscule.

Pricing is different in every area and shifts constantly. Such as, do not assume you will spend exactly the same amount as the prices listed below in my area.

Nature’s Promise
(organic brand for Giant Food Stores; only sold in Giant)
$3.99
Great Value Organic
(organic brand for Walmart; only sold in Walmart)
$4.44
Bragg’s (sold almost everywhere in the U.S.)$5.67 at Walmart
$5.99 at Giant

To illustrate, a 32-ounce bottle of ACV has 63 one tablespoon or 189 teaspoon servings in it. One tablespoon equals three teaspoons. If you only consume one tablespoon of ACV a day, one bottle will last you over two months.

Mother Vinegar Drink

If you’re unsure about drinking raw ACV or you can’t spend the money, no one is shaming you. Yet, pasteurized ACV does not hold the same level of nutrition as unpasteurized because the mother is filtered out.

Find a ratio of ACV to water you can handle and enjoy. Three teaspoons equal one tablespoon. To start, always shake a bottle of raw vinegar, so the mother is evenly distributed. First, add one teaspoon in 8 ounces of water. Or, add one tablespoon to a large water bottle you drink throughout the day, like I do.

For example, below, you can buy the same water bottle that has lasted me five years and counting, except it will be the newer version. I add 1-2 tablespoons raw ACV with a slice of lemon daily.

Always dilute ACV with water. Do not take a shot of ACV. Medical experts urge not to consume more than two tablespoons of ACV in a day. In fact, many say not to ingest more than one tablespoon at a time. Consuming large quantities of vinegar or undiluted can cause tooth enamel damage and/or other issues.

It really is that easy. No long recipe to follow; nothing expensive or synthetic. Sipping on a mother-infused apple cider vinegar beverage really is the most basic, cheapest drink that could save your insides. From left to right, we have four glasses of water with different amounts of raw ACV: none, 1 tsp., 1 tbsp., 2 tbsp.

Although rare, I have been drinking a glass of water and asked myself, “Why does this taste like watered down apple juice?” I forgot I added ACV.

Pasteurized or not, certain medicines may decrease in effectiveness if taken with vinegar. Read about my experiment with ACV and Adderall.

Dirty Water

One day I was drinking and my husband said, “Gimme some of that dirty water,” like he was trying to snag something really mysterious and rare. Genius. Of course, the dingy, rustiness of mother ACV looks dirty. Absolute genius.

Although rare, I have been drinking a glass of water and asked myself, “Why does this taste like watered down apple juice?” I forgot I added ACV.

You can’t tell me that glass of water to the right doesn’t look like plain water? Very lightly carbonated and refreshingly tangy. Most importantly, it helps to balance and detoxify your entire inside system.

Simply shake up a bottle of raw ACV (to evenly distribute the mother). Add a teaspoon to a glass of water or a tablespoon (or two) to your water bottle. Dunk some ginger, lemon, honey, mint, or other fruit, herbs, and spices in, for added flavor and additional health benefits.
